My SEO Dream Team- RheaDrysdale.com SEO Game

Blog August 30th, 2007

color3.jpg

Rhea has a neat idea about creating your SEO Dream Team. There are some interesting rules to this game…I have to chose 7 members for my team.

  • Michael Gray- Gray-Wolfs SEO Blog- you get honesty and valuable information from Michael Gray!
  • Rand Fishkin- SEOmoz.org- I don’t think I need to explain…just in case, Rand is a walking SEO encyclopedia and SEO RSS feed. Read everything he writes.
  • Aaron Wall- SEO Book- again, I don’t think I need to explain. If you don’t know who he is please buy his book.
  • Danny Sullivan- Search Engine Land- Sphinn- If you don’t know who Danny is I think trying to create an SEO team might be a bad idea…
  • Vanessa Fox- Vanessa use to work for Google’s Webmaster Central, but moved on to Zillow. She is a pretty lady with a billion valuable tips flowing through her head.
  • Matt Cutts- He has to be on the list…he is Matt Cutts!
  • Matt McGee- If you read anything Matt McGee writes you will see that the man knows his stuff. He always provides valuable and up-to-date information. I am a Matt McGee fan!

So there are my 7! They are my dream team, but there are a lot of other great folks out there! I have a lot of blogging buddies I would love to work with, but the name of this game was “SEO DREAM Team”.

I tag Court Tuttle, CristianRDazzlin Donna- SEO Scoop and Cornwall SEO- Lyndoman!

Off Topic- The Nick Hogan Tragedy

Blog August 29th, 2007

flag.jpg

I am a “Hogan Knows Best” fan. I have watched the family and loved the show from the beginning. They truly love each other and I can see that the Hulk lives for his kids.

I hate to say it, but it appears that the parents have dropped the ball. I know the Hulk wants to be cool to his kids, but you have to be a parent even when it sucks (and trust me it does with teenagers). With Nick’s driving record he should have lost his license long before now. I would have been grounded for life (if I lived at all) if my parents found out I was busted driving over 100 MPH.

I have a 15 year old and he knows he won’t get his driver’s license this year until I know FOR CERTAIN that he respects the people riding in the cars around him. I point them out all the time and say, “That is someone’s mom, someone’s dad, someone’s baby, someone’s grandmother!”

We all forget that sometimes. There are entire families that love the people driving around you every day. Every person is loved and the people that love them will be devastated if something happens to them.

My son also knows that his grades must remain very high, he has to be kind to his little brother (if he can’t be kind to him how can he respect people on the road that he doesn’t know?) and I need to see that he has a good sense of responsibility. Lives are at stake and parents need to consider this before they let their kids drive off.

John Graziano

John Graziano was the passenger in the car and the reports here in Florida say that his condition has not improved. I think Nick is taking a lot more heat than most because John is a U.S. Marine. The fact that he served in Iraq  just adds more fuel to the fire. Americans have deep respect for our soldiers and they should. My husband is a former Marine and I know that John Graziano has done a lot for our country.

I know a lot of people are saying John was 22 and he should have told Nick to stop. I know a lot of people are slamming Nick. The truth is none of us know anything about what really happened. There were observers, but when you are standing watching cars go by you cannot determine how fast a car is going.

Nick

We do know Nick was driving fast and I know he will live with this major mistake for the rest of his life. I also know that this is a lot for a 17 year old to handle. He has the accident, the guilt and the entire world commenting on his mistake. How much more will drive this kid over the edge? To the news and press, back off a bit, please. This is a child we are talking about.

Even if Nick was driving 90 miles an hour and crashed the car I can’t say this accident is completely his fault.

We have laws in place and the court system should have considered a 16 year old kid getting busted driving over 100 MPH twice! Why didn’t they do more? If you and I had done the same thing we would have been in a lot of trouble.

I hate to say it, but what were his parents thinking? I saw the video of Nick speeding away from the Ivy. His mom was there and saw. You know what my mom would have done? Chased me down, taken my keys and she would have kicked my ass up and down the road!

My Stupid Opinion

My opinion means nothing, it is just mine. But, my opinion is that it is very easy to judge people and none of us really have the right to do so. However, as parents this type of story ticks us off and it should.  All I keep thinking about is John’s parents, his family and his fiance. God bless them. My prayers are going out to them.

My Concern

Emotions are involved and that is why so many are discussing this story. My concern is a 17 year old boy dealing with a lot of hell and having the entire world watching. This has to an unbelievable amount of stress. I would hate to see another tragedy occur because this boy cannot handle the stress. I doubt I could handle it…

My prayers are going out to all of them. Both sets of parents are suffering, the family members are suffering, Nick is suffering, but John Graziano is suffering the most. This is a sad situation all the way around.

Another Blog Designer I Would Like to Show You

Blog August 29th, 2007

design-blog.jpg

Unique Blog Designs- I found them on MyBlogLog a while back. Obviously, I am discussing web design a lot today. I do feel, as I said earlier today, that many businesses can benefit greatly by using a blog as their web site. Unique Blog Designs has outstanding blog designs. They are clean and attractive.

Some day I am going to invest in a blog design and these guys are at the top of my list. Check them out and do not rule out the interactive features you have available when you use a blog as a web site. You can have a home page, supporting pages and a blog…it will look like a web site, but function as a blog. The biggest bonus is how affordable a blog is- hosting and design wise.

Melissa at SEO Aware. Have a good day!

Will New Web Design Options Put Some Web Designers Out of Business?

Blog August 29th, 2007

search-5.jpg

I think it is becoming very clear that businesses now have many options to choose from when investing in a web site. I have discussed many of these options on this blog:

  • GoDaddy’s Website Tonight- Templates that are completely adaptable and easy for businesses to create and very easy to maintain. (previous articles- 1, 2, 3, 4)
  • Designersi.com- a great choice for ecommerce web sites and web sites that want interactive services.   (previous articles - 1, 2, 3)
  • myMusesite.com- I interviewed the creators of this company and was very impressed by their software. It was easy to use and very affordable.
  • A more expensive option- Template Monster- They offer beautiful templates that you will need to have designer customize for you, but even with the customization you are saving a lot of money!  (previous articles- 1, 2)

Another Option - One thing I discussed at the Site Pro News blog was businesses using blogs as their web sites. Many are having great success and they are saving a lot of money.

Back to My Question

Do you think web design options, or web site builders, are hurting web designers?

I have noticed that a few of the companies I work with are suddenly having a hard time bringing in the business they did a year ago. I completely understand businesses using web site builders because they are saving money and everyone I know wants to save money. However, there are many businesses that need a web design company to create customized web site solutions for them. There will always be a place for good web designers.

The guys from myMusesite.com are very smart in my opinion. They are web designers and programmers, but they created an affordable and customizable solution for small to medium-sized businesses.

Web site builders are being used in a massive way. If you are a web designer that wants to continue making money you may want to consider creating your own customizable, web site builder…the more styles the better in my opinion.
