Total happy dork – thanks 2013!

As many people know I have been working for a variety of companies and on many projects this past year. It has been a great year work wise. Before I forget, I need to thank Todd Malicoat for connecting me with someone for one large project. It was a great opportunity.

I spent a lot of time working and studying SEO. Then I spent a lot of time working to eat and building a client base. I also had to blog and try to solidify my reputation. I think I accomplished what I wanted to in this regard. However, when work becomes draining you must go in a direction that you enjoy to everyone suffers because you are unhappy.

Self Realization

I have come to the conclusion that I really don’t want to do the one-on-one, monthly SEO client work any longer. I just don’t want to do that right now. I enjoy consulting and helping give companies direction in regards to online marketing and web development. I think that is the direction I am going to focus on for the foreseeable future….which means I have to change my entire website…#MoreWork

Community Work

I also have realized that community work and the social aspect is something I really enjoy (of course we all know I am a Twitter addict anyway). This type of work is what I would love to do more of.  I have to thank Moz for giving me this opportunity. I moved from the editing team to the community team at Moz and I love it! I love the work and the Moz audience and I also love the people at Moz. Thanks Moz for being such a supportive group of people and I learn from you everyday!

Pubcon Vegas 2013

Brett Tabke let me handle Twitter for them for Pubcon Vegas 2013. Although it was a ton of work, it was a fantastic and thrilling opportunity. It was also so much fun. The Pubcon audiences are an amazing group of people. I love Pubcon and getting to work with Brett was a very big highlight in my year.

AuthorityLabs

The bottom line is, everyone at AuthorityLabs is like a nice big brother (even though I think I am older than all of them, but they are way taller than me!). I trust them completely and I love what they do. There are not a lot of people I would trust my kids with, but these guys I would. Truly good people are hard to find and I am blessed to know them. #FriendsForLife

ISOOSI

A big thanks to Carlos Fernandes for trusting me to help him out with editing duties for his site’s blog. I have been introduced to a great group of writers that I enjoy working with. I really like Carlos and his team and I love the tools the site offers for research. ISOOSI has been a great part of my year.

The SEO Community

I learn so much from the SEO community, but more importantly I feel like I have a very large extended family. There are so many people that I can contact if I need help or support. This is a real blessing and I love all of you.

Dana Lookadoo

As many in the SEO community know, Dana had a horrific biking accident and has been fighting to get her strength back.   I have watched my community come together and support Dana in such a massive way. It really showed that we are like family. Dana is in my thoughts so many times a day and will be throughout 2014. Please say prayers for her recovery.

Personal Life

Well, I turned 40 this year and while I feel old, and I am shocked I am this old, I have enjoyed embracing this new time with my husband. I have dated him since I was 14 years old and every new decade I am embrace he is right there to smile at me and we continue on our journey. There are no words to express how blessed I feel to have him by my side. He is such an inspiration to me and every time I look at him I feel like that same 14 year old girl from long ago in awe of some hot older guy. He is my sun, my reason for breathing and my safe place. I am lucky and I know it.

I have blogged before about my youngest son and his struggles with ADD. This is an ongoing struggle for him and as his mother it is something I deal with daily. It is exhausting at times, but I will do whatever I can to help him. So if you ever stop by and my house is a mess, well, I work a lot and have lots to deal with daily ;).

So 2014…

I am excited to see what amazing and what challenges you bring this year. My hope is that the people in my country will quit fighting with one another. I hope that they can quit insulting and attacking others just because they are a member of a different political party and just join hands to accomplish some good instead of creating hate and anger. Wishful thinking I know.

I also wish everyone could quit judging one another. People are so quick to judge and to hate and to belittle. We are all different, we all have value and our differences are really things to learn from. Differences should never be about hate and in my opinion I think those that hate over differences are ignorant, uneducated and shallow. I pray this year the hate and judgments lessen.

God bless all of you in you 2014. Please be safe.
