I will admit I did not want to be involved with Twitter. To me it was just one more thing to worry about it and I looked at it and just saw no value in it. Clients and attendees at our workshops kept asking me what I thought and I just didn’t have anything to tell them, except I just don’t want one more thing on my plate.
Then, I decided to give it a shot and check it out on a deeper level. Obviously...

I see a lot of businesses making really bad Facebook decisions. They are not concerned with engaging their Facebook followers, creating relationships and they don’t even consider offering them anything.
Whether you are a large or small business your goals should be to offer something valuable to your followers. This could be advice, entertainment, offering a deal/something for free and/or even the feelings...

Google’s Matt Cutts answers the question, “Does the PageRank of Twitter profiles matter?”
Posted by Melissa | Feb 17th, 2010
Well, I use Facebook a lot, but there are somethings they could do that would make me possibly use them as a my homepage:
Sidebar business directory search (imagine how many more people would sign up to add their business)
If they did have a business directory I would like my business info to be at the top of my business page
Sidebar local movie search
A Google search box (or maybe search3 or askboth)
Let...

Businesses are constantly being told to start getting into social media. Social media has its benefits and it can be very beneficial, but it is not a cure-all. You can’t just get a Twitter account, get followers and assume the money will start rolling in. It just doesn’t work that way.
As with any advertising or online marketing campaign there needs to be a plan, goals and a way to measure success...

So I get this email from a local company that is angry because my client is now on the first page in the search results. His gripe is that we can’t advertise for a location we are not directly in…No, I am not joking. We optimized for a location in Sarasota, Siesta Key, but the business is based in Nokomis, just south of Sarasota and I really mean just south.
Complaint #1

I read a lot of industry blogs and sites and PDFs and White Papers….I read a lot! I don’t believe everything I read and I am shocked by a lot of what I read. Not as shocked as I was when I heard Michael Jackson was dead, but I am getting off track…
In my opinion, besides God, Google basically runs the world. Without them we would be screwed. Many people use them daily for searches, but many...

You Might Be a Twitter Addict
If you Twitter on the toilet, you might be a Twitter Addict
I love the Internet and I don’t think I would be any good at my job if I wasn’t a “net junkie”. Constantly educating oneself is important in this industry and social media helps us do that. However, are we crossing the line of effectiveness and moving into addiction?

Quick SEO Tip
People tell me their sites are optimized and they can google their business name and find their site. That is great, but is everyone going to know your name?
Some may, but many won’t. The many that don’t can bring you a lot of business. People are going to be searching the Web for a service or product you provide. Have you searched for the service/product you provide? You want...

I hear a lot about Twitter and I am trying to become a Twitteraniac , but I am just not there yet. I do love Facebook though. I went on originally for business networking and that worked, but as with everyone I ended up connecting with friends from long ago. I have a good number of friends and I started participating is some of the fun stuff to reconnect with people. I had a good time, but at the same time...

I had a meeting last week where a rather large company didn’t believe Social Media Marketing (SMM) could help them in anyway. They had never heard of it and didn’t know why I was even discussing it. Well, anyone that is reading this post knows why it is important.
I was looking for some XBOX 360 games for my son’s upcoming birthday and I found Shrek the Third. It didn’t have many stars...

There are so many things I can discuss with clients. There are a lot of options to choose when you are looking to promote your web site or business blog, but must you use every possible method? Do real people have the time to use every method constantly? I don’t think so.
I have spent the last couple of months trying to keep up with just Stumble, Digg, Sphinn and Netscape and I am worn out…And...

On Sept. 7 Lyndoman wrote How many digg votes does it take to get to the front page?. This is not the first article about Digg and the issues that come with using the service. If you look at the comments on this article you will see one from ob81. He discusses friends Digging stories. If he is right and Digg has decided to give less weight to friends voting I cannot blame them. When you have 100 friends...
