I have suggested that people blog about news events every once in awhile to increase traffic. On August 29th I blogged about the Nick Hogan Car Accident, which is obviously completely unrelated to the subject(s) of my blog. I knew that I could not blog a lot this week, because life is hectic right now. So, I thought I would experiment a bit and discuss my opinion on the issue.
I did Stumble, Digg and Netscape the article and thought I would sit back and see what happened. Here is what happened:
- 5,012 new visitors that came to that article (the stats will probably change by tonight)
- Over 50% visited more than 12 pages
- My subscribers doubled
- I have more members of my community and friends at BlogCatalog and MyBlogLog
So What is My Point?
When you know that there are news stories out there that people are heavily searching for, and you have an opinion about it, don’t be afraid to voice your opinions. You will get more traffic and you will reach people that you never have before. Another bonus, you get to vent your frustration.

Yes, I can emphatise with that. Last month I posted a question on the Internet Hoax about seeing 2 moons on August 27 in one of my blogs. I was so surprised that so many believed in it that I got more than 12,000 hits for that article.
It certainly is an interesting idea. However, do you think it might anger those that view your blog for its intended subject matter?
Alan, sorry it took so long to respond. I am not sure if it angers them or not. I hope not. I do think it is clear that all bloggers have personalities and opinions. I like to see another side of them from time to time.
