Social Media Optimization (SMO) provides several bonuses. Social media resources can provide great link popularity, bring in many more visitors/readers and, more importantly, promote your business in a massive way!
If you use social media outlets effectively you can advertise your business and reach people you would have never had an opportunity to reach before. When you reach people worldwide and provide them with valuable and solid information you create a trusted reputation.
Why Should I Bother?
Well, I use to think the same thing. I didn’t want to put the effort in and to be perfectly honest I didn’t want to waste my time. However, as part of my job it was important for me to test things out. The truth is social media has boomed and if you want to do well you must play the game. Social media may not be here to stay, but right now it is a very important aspect of Internet marketing strategies. I suggest you take some time to learn about social media and take advantage of the benefits it provides.
What Are Your Social Media Options?
I am going to list some of the different, and most popular, social media options and I am going to give you articles that tell you the best way(s) to do well. I could write something and copy their ideas, but I think it is better to give them the credit and save myself a ton of time as well ;-).
- StumbleUpon– Single Grain has a great article on how to do well with StumbleUpon. You can also read a beginners guide to StumbleUpon for more info.
- Digg– Tamar Weinberg has a great article on how to be successful with Digg. Earner$ Blog also has an educational article about Digg.
- Netscape– Pronet Advertising has a great article- A Beginners Guide to Netscape. This is an important intro to Netscape.
- Del.icio.us– Del.icio.us is a social bookmarking site that can benefit bloggers and web owners alike. ProBlogger wrote an article that will tell you how to do well on Del.icio.us.
- Reddit– Reddit is a social news web site that provides many benefits. The 10e20.com wrote “Reddit- Everything you ever wanted to know about it“.
- Sphinn– Sphinn is a social media site that focuses on SEO, SEM, SMO, blogging, Google, Yahoo, Microsoft etc. If you are involved in any of these industries Sphinn is a great place to network and find articles that WILL benefit you and your company.
The three social media sites I get the most traffic from are StumbleUpon , Sphinn and Netscape. I am still not a great fan of Stumbling. To be perfectly honest, I don’t like how the site works much at all, but there is no doubt that the amount of traffic I get from it is outstanding.
Do Not Ignore This Important Marketing Resource
We all know that to do well we must work and adding social media to your marketing plan does create work, but at the same time there are several benefits and you will find many sites/blogs that you will learn from. I have found a lot of fantastic sites that I seriously would have never found before.
If you want to do well in social media you have to become a part of the game. You have to follow the rules and you need to become part of the communities. You can split up the job by having one employee become a Stumbler and another a Digger while another becomes a Sphinner…Find a way to make it work and you will be surprised. More traffic means more clients; more clients means more money. Keep this in mind.
