Some people have heard that they should use keywords (in the meta keywords) they want to show up for. Guess what? That doesn’t work and the search engines do not like it. It appears as though you are spamming.
So, here is the real deal on Keywords: You only add words to your meta keyword list that are located in the copy/content, alt-tags and anchor text of that specific page. If you have a web site about super heros and one page is about Spiderman, one is about the Hulk and one is about Superman you do not add “Spiderman”, “The Hulk” and “Superman” to your keyword list on your Spiderman page- -well, unless you discuss the Hulk and Superman on the Spiderman page…Does that make sense?
There is a keyword list for every page of your site and they should ALL be different. Each list is determined by the words on that page alone, not all of the pages. So, when creating your meta keywords you need to look at the copy of your page. If there is a phrase or a word you want there you are going to have to find a way to integrate it into the copy and then it can be added to the keyword list. When the search engine spiders scan your site they will look at the keyword list and then the copy, alt-tags, anchor text, title-tag and meta description to see if the words in your list are also in the other areas I listed. This is what your site needs to do well in the search engines. Do not add words that are not listed on the page hoping to gain a placement for a word that may relate to what you do, but is not on your site.
